World-famous House of Shock in New Orleans proclaims 2014 as their final year

The House of Shock is coming to an end in New Orleans.

The time of year for frights, ghoulies, Halloween decorations, and haunted house has arrived as fall is quickly approaching. It's those months that people love to be scared, and those in New Orleans had better take advantage of it. T world-renowned haunted house known as House of Shock announced on Sept. 4, 2014, declared it is their final year. reported that Ross Karpelman, co-founder of the heavy metal haunted house, confirmed that 2014 will be the end. House of Shock has been in operation for 22 years and it's time has come to move on.

The gigantic haunted house sitting under the Huey P. Long Bridge, which is scary enough in itself, has dealt with ghosts, gore, huge labyrinths, shocks, surprises, pyro, immense fear, and questionable religious tactics.

While House of Shock has always been incredible popular and well-visited, profit isn't always something that comes in huge numbers. The past two years have been hurt even more by bad weather such as heavy rains and especially Hurricane Isaac.

Karpelman said that it's "hard work" and that it just "doesn't make sense to do it" anymore considering the high risk, huge amount of effort, and small amount of profit. Another reason for House of Shock to end their run is that nothing is left to prove to the world.

"I mean, it's been over two decades," he said. "We've kept the same theme for 20 some odd years. We were trendsetters without trying to be. We made our mark. Now I'm seeing others doing the same thing. We invented the idea of the interactive haunted house. It's time to call it quits."

Everyone involved knows that the mostly volunteer work at House of Shock has been incredibly fun, but it's time for it to come to an end. Karpelman said he will indeed missed everyone associated with the haunted house each year.

House of Shock will take place at 319 Butterworth Street in Jefferson from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. (Central) every Friday and Saturday in October. There are are extra dates of October 26, 29, and 30.

Make sure to head out and enjoy House of Shock one (or more) last time and see if good will finally triumph over evil. That's highly unlikely, but you never know what could happen at one of the scariest haunted houses in the world.
