Every four years in sports the international community gathers to see who is the football champion of the planet. Don’t think it will be the Dallas Cowboys or the Oakland Raiders, this year it’s Germany and Argentina.
FIFA? It’s soccer, twenty guys kicking a volleyball around for ninety-plus minutes and two guys on each end of the field wearing jerseys that don’t match.
Which brings us to this year’s classic. The matchup has the Catholic Church involved. According to reports Pope Francis and his wife have invited former Pope Benedict and his fiance to fly to Brazil aboard the Vatican jumbo liner. They will attend the big game seated in a luxury skybox next to the Nike box which includes Lebron James, Kanye West and the Kardashians. Kanye is scheduled to be sing the Brazilian national anthem before the opening kick, or whatever they call it.
Rumors have surfaced that the Popes remain close friends but are bitter rivals when it comes to sports. Current Pope Francis was born in Argentina and aides say that he relaxes by kicking the ball around in the backyard before retiring for the night. In addition, ex-Pope Benedict, a German born soccer fan watches the FIFASports.com channel on satellite TV after dining with his fiance, the former supermodel Imam.
Nevertheless, after the game the couples have reservations down Hernando’s Hideaway down at the beach to kick back, enjoy some Argentine Lavash Pizza and knock back a few beers.
