In case you haven’t heard the news, a major sports event is days away and folks around the world are ready to celebrate! Get ready to raise your glass and toast the best soccer players in the world. According to a June 10 report published by The Guardian, the FIFA World Cup kicks off in Brazil on June 12, 2014.
And just in case you cant be there in person, you can be there in spirit! Social media will be part of the experience. FIFA launched its official World Cup account on Instagram which will showcase backstage photos from stadiums across Brazil along with stunning scenic photography. Fans can also upload pictures. Twitter is also getting into the “football” spirit with “hashflags” for each of the 32 teams. Plus, followers can track all of the 64 matches, follow individual teams and players. If you happen to come down with World Cup fever, a refreshing beverage may be just what the doctor ordered! Get into the World Cup “spirit” with one or two of the cocktail recipes listed below.
World Cup Cocktails & Drinks
Batida Rosa – Batida’s are tropical drink that include fresh fruit and cachaca – a sugarcane liquor from Brazil and the third most consumed spirit in the entire world. This 5-star recipe calls for Cachaca, pineapple and lemon juices, grenadine, club soda and an orange peel as garnish.
Passion Fruit Batida – This 5-star drink, from Emeril Lagasse, calls for passion fruit, sugar, cachaca and chipped ice. Don’t forget the blender!
Caipirinha – This popular Brazilian cocktail includes Brazilian rum – Cachaca, fresh lime, brown and white sugar and ice cubes. Legend has it this recipe, which included garlic and honey, was first used for patients who had the Spanish flu.
Capeta Batida – This drink calls for sweetened condensed milk, cachaca, ground cinnamon, instant powdered chocolate milk mix. Shake vigorously with ice and pour into chilled martini glasses.

- 2 oz. Leblon Cachaça
- 2 tsp. superfine sugar or 1 oz. simple syrup
- 3 strawberries
- 3 basil leaves
- 1/4 lime
Muddle the lime, strawberries, basil, and sugar in a shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and add Leblon Cachaça. Shake well and serve in a rocks glass. Garnish with a strawberry and a basil leaf.

- 2 oz. Leblon Cachaça
- 2 oz. coconut cream
- 2 oz. condensed milk
- 1/2 oz. simple syrup
- 1 cup cracked ice
- Toasted coconut
Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Garnish with toasted coconut.
