World Cup 2014: "Group A" odds, bracket predictions, picks and TV match schedule

Given that we are days away from the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, this seems like an opportune time to take a look at the latest odds to win “Group A”, the official TV match schedule, and of course, issue some free picks and predictions. As detailed by Bleacher Report on June 9, 2014, the host country of Brazil, Mexico, Croatia and Cameroon comprise this year’s Group A.

In terms of 2014 World Cup soccer betting odds, it should come as no surprise that Brazil is the overwhelming favorite to not only emerge from this bunch, but also to go all the way. At the present time, the five-time World Cup champs have been tagged with 1/4 odds to win Group A in rather easy fashion.

The three TV scheduled matches on Brazil’s slate in the group stage are slated in the following order: Croatia (June 12 at 4 p.m. ET in Sao Paulo), an all-American showdown with Mexico (June 17 at 3 p.m. ET in Fortaleza), and finally a date with Cameroon (June 23 at 4 p.m. ET in Brasilia). As far as which Group A side is capable of giving Brazil its toughest challenge, it shouldn’t shock anyone that Mexico is that team.

El Tri is listed as a distant runner-up in oddsmakers’ eyes, as their odds to win Group A stand at +600 just days away from their first match against Cameroon on June 13 (12 p.m. ET) from Natal. As stated above, Mexico plays Brazil in its second group match, before closing things out with a clash against Croatia on June 23 (4 p.m. ET) in Recife.

Next up on the list of odds to win Group A is Croatia, whose odds of upsetting Brazil and/or Mexico stand at 8/1 [+800]. It’s certainly worth noting that the Croatians’ battle with Cameroon on June 18 (3 p.m. ET in Manaus) will be sandwiched between the aforementioned matches with Brazil (first match) and Mexico (third match).

Finally, the Republic of Cameroon is getting no love from 2014 World Cup oddsmakers, as they’re listed as 25/1 [+2500] longshots. This year’s team will try and become only the second squad to survive group play in six appearances, but will have to defy very tall odds.

Odds to win 2014 World Cup “Group A” Bracket

Brazil: 1/4 [-400]
Mexico: 6/1 [+600]
Croatia: 8/1 [+800]
Cameroon: 25/1 [+2500]
