This might be the most awesome card in SHRP history. There are four horses racing tonight with Triple Crown experience, three in the Maxxam Gold Cup. A filly who came within a length of winning the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf is in the Jersey Lilly Stakes. And the promising Departing goes in the Texas Heritage. Departing could very well wind up in one of this year's Triple Crown races. It is simply a horseplayer's dream.
We will be playing a .50 pick 4 on the stakes races, which begin in Race 7. There is some variance on that from our top four picks, in part to get a few more prices in there and also because a couple horses we threw in seem like win or miss the board types.
Here is the play: 4-6 with 4-5-6-7 with 1-4-6-8 with 3-4-6-7.
Friday night was a little rough for Team Falcon, but we're looking for a big bounce back effort tonight.
Also today on simulcast is the Santa Anita Handicap, which features Game on Dude and Ron the Greek, the last two winners of the race.
They figure to be short prices. We will try for some mid-level odds with Called to Serve and Guilt Trip, two improving horses that might be ready to take the big jump today. It will be hard to get around Game on Dude, but we are looking for value and both of our horses could jump up and win at a price.
Meanwhile, back at good old SHRP, here are the full card picks and how to use them:
We give you four horses. The numbers correspond to the program number or betting number. This isn't necessarily the order we think they will finish, but more the four horses we believe are the most likely contenders.
If you have read Acing Racing, we advocate trifecta, pick three and pick four wagering (buy the book if you want the strategies). If you are new to the game, try some simple exacta boxes. Take a horse of your own with two of mine and play a three-horse box ($6 on a $1 wager). Make sure you have at least one horse of 8-1 or higher in the bet.
More advanced players should use these selections as supplements to your own handicapping.
