This week is National Employ Older Workers Week. We’ve seen a large growth in the number of working folks 55 or older and expect that this trend will continue into the future. It’s important that we realize and support the important role the older workforce provides to our economy. The federal Department of Labor estimates that about 41% of those folks 55 and over will be employed and making up more than 21% of the labor force by 2014.
National Employ Older Workers Week is a great way to bring visibility to this group of workers and to help communities and organizations create inventive approaches to developing more opportunities aimed at this segment of the workforce.
To support National Employ Older Workers Week, Washington State’s WorkSource is offering employment events for older workers, which includes hiring events, help with resumes and interviewing, job clubs, as well as other activities.
The Tacoma/Pierce County events calendar includes about twenty events this week alone for folks to attend, ranging in topic from learning more about using LinkedIn to understanding the online application process for Boeing. For more information or to view the calendar of events for each WorkSorce region or office, visit the WorkSource website.
