The Carter Burden Gallery, formerly gallery 307, has just kicked off a new group exhibition opening that runs through June 19. The roster of artists in the group show entitled Works on Walls 2014 includes over twenty artists, notably Robert Ludwig, Marilyn Sontag, Jean Promutico, Mitchell Lewis, and Marlena Vaccaro, to name a few key names, added the gallery statement today (May 30).

In Works on Walls 2014, the Carter Burden Gallery, exhibits the work of over twenty artists, from gallery veterans to exciting new additions to its gallery community. "Conceptually and aesthetically bound through abstraction, Works on Walls 2014 will showcase beautiful pieces drawn from a range of media. From the glowing translucence of Karen Green Recor’s painting to the whimsical sculpture of Kathy Bruce, the show examines and celebrates abstraction in its many forms," added http://www.carterburdencenter.org. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Added a company spokesperson, the gallery located in Chelsea, New York is a program of the Carter Burden Center "designed to give a voice to New York's re-emerging older professional artists. The Carter Burden Center is a non-profit agency established in 1971 by the late Carter Burden when he was a New York City Councilman. The mission is to promote the well-being of older adults through a continuum of services, advocacy and volunteer programs oriented to individual, family and community needs."

Kathy Bruce, one of the highlights of the show is know for her pioneering site-specific environmental art. She received a M.F.A from Yale University School of Art and a certificate from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Ms. Bruce has won numerous grants and awards. In 2012 she completed a Fulbright Hayes Senior Scholarship Grant for Lecturing and Research in Puno, Peru where she taught environmental art. Robert Ludwig, is the artist that introduced me to The Carter Burden Gallery when he exhibited at the former gallery 307. He was a former Professor of mine in drawing and has a wonderfully abstract artist's eye. He studied physics at The George Washington University and did graduate work at Princeton University before deciding to become a painter, added the spokesperson. He received a B.A. in painting and sculpture magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota. He teaches at The College of Staten Island (CUNY) and has exhibited there, as well as Snug Harbor Cultural Center, and The Carter Burden Gallery, to name a few exhibitions.
