SRVS (pronounced serves) stands out as one of the most important entities in the lives of many in Memphis.

The non-profit organization has provided services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in this area since 1962. It began as a sheltered workshop for people with disabilities to work, make money, and learn a trade.

Over the years, SRVS has evolved and expanded, providing residential assistance and a state-of-the-art learning center for those in need.

Last Friday the third class of the Workplace Success Group graduated at SRVS Career Center. This group is one of the first of its kind, geared toward training people with intellectual disabilities to be able to obtain jobs in the local community.

A variety of techniques are employed to train these potential employees including hands on instruction, job coaching, and soft skills training.

A variety of subjects are taught to the group such as how to dress for an interview, fill out job applications, and how to handle stressful situations they might encounter in a workplace environment.

You may have noticed some of the graduates wearing sunglasses in the photo. You would too if your future was as bright as theirs.
