Workout at home: with little or no money

In the current economy, most people don’t have the money for gym memberships. And buying various fitness equipment can get expensive as well. In the last article, strength training with no equipment was discussed. Now let’s take a look at more exercises.

To really burn calories and drop the pounds, cardiovascular exercise must be incorporated into your weight loss program. Cardio simply means any activity that increases the work of the heart and lings. It‘s also called aerobic exercise. Activities such as walking, jogging, swimming, riding a bike and even jumping rope are examples of cardio.

No treadmill needed:

  • Talk a walk around the block a few times
  • Head to the mall and window shop while walking around the mall several times
  • Walk to work instead of driving if it’s not far
  • Walk in place during commercial breaks of your favorite TV programs
  • Invest in a few workout DVDs like Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds

Make exercise fun:

  • Pop in your favorite music CD and dance around for 30 minutes
  • No WiiFit needed, just grab a hula hoop and twirl those hips
  • Be a kid: grab a rope, play hopscotch, play tag
  • Run up and down the stairs a few times

Many items can be purchased at the dollar store like small hand weights, pedometers, fitness DVDs, jump ropes, hula hoops and various kids’ games and more. Also, search neighborhood yard sales, thrift stores, eBay and other places were you can find fitness equipment and cheap prices. Friends may even have some old equipment they don’t use anymore they might swap with you. There is really no need to confine workouts to the gym or having a ton of DVDs. There is no excuse for getting in at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day

True. I have a gym membership, but sometimes I don't feel like driving there. I might substitute a couple sessions for some stay at home sessions or do both!!!

Even us die hard gym junkies can get a great workout at home! I love my basement gym! (Most of the equipment I got used, by asking my coworkers to donate any unused fitness equipment it to me :) It really does work!!!
