4J Studios, the developers responsible for bringing Minecraft to console players, has now released the hit block building game on both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. In a post on the developer’s official Twitter account on Dec 24, the team revealed that they are now taking a break for the remainder of the year but will return in 2014 to continue work on launching next-gen versions of Minecraft on Xbox One and Playstation 4 in addition to a handheld edition on Sony’s PS Vita.
Versions of Minecraft were originally planned to be next-gen launch titles, but 4J Studios pushed back their release in order to focus on finishing up the PS3 edition of the game. Now that Minecraft: PS3 Edition has officially launched, the developer will indeed now move their sights on bringing the sandbox creation title to more console systems. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until next year for more news on the projects after 4J Studios has announced their plans for a holiday break.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, as well as the PS3 version of the game are now available for download.
