Worcester, Bivighouse highlight exciting night of basketball

Mitch Worcester from Washburn high school joined a very elite group on Tuesday evening.

According to the WHOU game broadcast Worcester became the 15th Maine high school basketball and ninth boys basketball player to reach the 2,000 career point mark.

Worcester came into the game against Fort Fairfield with 1,981 points. He scored 39 in a 69-61 Washburn victory.

Cindy Blodgett from Lawrence high school is the all time state leader with 2,596 points. Raymond Alley from Vinalhaven is the all time boys basketball state scoring leader with 2,306.

Worcester and the Beavers have six more regular season games plus tourney play.

Washburn has started the season 12-0 despite having only two seniors on the roster including Worcester.

Colton Bivighouse from Katahdin reached the 1,000 career point plateau when he scored 29 points in a 61-51 loss Tuesday evening to Southern Aroostook.

Isaiah Bess scored 29 points to lead the Penquis Patriots to a class C heal point worthy victory over Lee Academy.

Penquis (12-1) currently looks to have a good hold on the number two spot in the MPA class C standings with five regular season games remaining.

Alex Campbell scored 23 points including a four point play at the end of regulation to lift the Bangor Rams to a 62-58 victory over Messalonskee.
