Woot.com offers one deal a day at discounted prices and is located in Dallas. Unlike many of the group sites, there really is only one product offering per day or until the product being sold is all out of stock, most of which are more expensive electronics from what I have experienced. The idea is a great one, but how good of a deal do you really get?
I have followed the woots for about a week now. It appears as if many (but not all) of the deals I have spotted are for refurbished, higher-priced electronic items. Refurbished products can save you money and they are usually fine products, however, just make sure you know this before you purchase one thinking that it is new. It appears the site does not like to take returns. You can try to get a replacement from the manufacturer if it malfunctions or sell it on Ebay (per their response to this issue). So unless the product is truly defective, once you buy it you are stuck with it. This is mainly concerning as there was a reason the product had to be refurbished and it may be likely to have similar problems down the line without much of a warranty.
In fact, you cannot even call the company at all to speak with a rep. Period. The best you can do is post a comment on their site which may or may not be addressed. They suggest Googling the product manufacturer. While this may work great for some of you out in cyberland, the customer service for this company is practically non-existent. They do acknowledge this though and make no false claims that they will help you out when they won't. It is a matter of your comfort level. For me, I am all for paying a little more for a new item at a retail store just to have the peace of mind that I could return it if I wanted for whatever reason and that I could count on the customer support throughout the life of the product that I very much deserve.
I have not purchsed anything through this site and this info was attained from their website. Commentaries are based solely on my opinions and reservations of the site and its services. Order if you like, just read the fine print first. Today's woot is for a new item (42' in 1080 p LCD HDTV) and looks to be a pretty good deal.
