Woodstock bicyclist hit, killed in collision with car in Cobb County

A bicyclist was killed late Wednesday afternoon after he lost control and rode into the path of a car in Acworth.

Police hours later were still trying to determine why the 42-year-old Woodstock man lost control.

The incident happened at 4 p.m. on Bells Ferry Road, according to Cobb County police.

Investigators said Mr. Timothy Austin was riding on the sidewalk and heading southbound on Bells Ferry Road when he lost control of his bike and entered the roadway, police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman said.

Ms. Amanda Neill, 29, of Lilburn, struck Mr. Austin with her silver 2006 Nissan Xterra, Officer Bowman said. The bicyclist died at the scene, he said.

Ms. Neill was not injured and police do not expect to charge her in the incident, which remains under investigation, Officer Bowman said.

Anyone with information about this fatality collision is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
