The Wilson house was closed in 2005 and has undergone an extensive restoration that has transformed the house from a presidential historic site into a museum that focuses not only on the Wilson family but also on Reconstruction from a local perspective. The only museum in the country to do so.

The Wilson re-opening was accompanied by a musical performance by the South Carolina Philharmonic, children's craft activities as well as an appearance by President Wilson himself in the form of Columbia's own Ed Beardsley who gave a dramatization of Wilson's final speech before his stroke in September, 1919..

The house joins the other three houses of Historic Columbia, the Robert Mills House, the Hampton-Preston mansion and the Mann-Simons Site. Although Historic Columbia is normally closed on Mondays, in honor of Presidents Day on February 17, the Wilson house will be open for tours, The Wilson House is located on the corner of Hampton and Henderson Streets.
