More than 250 players have entered the 36th annual Woodlands Junior Clay Court Tennis Championships June 20-22. Matches will be held at The Woodlands Country Club Tennis Center and on courts at The Woodlands and The Woodlands College Park high schools.
The WJCCC includes boys and girls singles and doubles matches in the 12 through 18-year age brackets. Levels of play will be open (non-qualifieds), champs and super champs. New this year are boys and girls 10 age divisions. Super champs will play on clay while the other levels will play on hard courts.
The tournament is sponsored by the Woodlands Country Club, organized by the Woodlands Men’s Tennis Association and sanctioned by USTA Texas.
“The WJCCC tournament has been a community tradition in The Woodlands since first organized 36 years ago. Our venues are free and open to the public, with most finals held on Sunday the 22nd,” reports David Norton, 2014 president of the WMTA.
“All the age-group brackets are competitive and, to help out, the WMTA provides active court monitors,” he said.
“Since there are just a few sanctioned junior tournaments in our area, the talent we see every year is great. I love to watch the kids play.”
