Eugene Wong of North Vancouver picked up the Freedom 55 Financial Canadian Player of the Week award Sunday as top Canadian for his T2 performance during PGA Tour Canada’s season-opening PC Financial Open.
Wong finished at 15-under 273 for the tournament, one shot back of winner Joel Dahmen of the U.S.
Freedom 55 Financial established the Canadian Player of the Week award to recognize the top players on PGA Tour Canada.
Following each tournament this summer, Freedom 55 Financial will present the award and $1,500 to the Canadian who shoots the lowest total score.
At PGA Tour Canada’s final event of the season, the Tour Championship of Canada presented by Freedom 55 Financial, the Freedom 55 Financial Canadian Player of the Year award and $10,000 will be presented to the top Canadian player on the tour’s Order of Merit.
The Tour Championship, PGA Tour Canada’s flagship event, will be conducted by Golf Canada.
The tournament happens Sept. 8-14 at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club in London, ON. It will see the culmination of the race for Web.com Tour status to be earned by the top five players on the tour’s Order of Merit.
