Women who eat an apple a day might have better sex

You've heard the saying "an apple a day helps keep the doctor away, " well for the ladies it might do even more than that!

According to a new study in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, if women eat an apple a day they will experience a better sexual quality of life than the ladies who have "no regular apple consumption," reported by Fox News Thursday.

Scientists followed 781 Italian women aged 18 to 43 with no history of sexual disorders or issues. This group was not taking prescription medication nor suffering from depression. Researchers learned that the ladies who ate apples regularly had better "lubrication and overall sexual function." The study didn't find an actual cause, but researchers theorize it's possible, that women who eat more apples are simply healthier overall, which would then contribute to better sexual function. That sorta makes sense.

Just like other stereotypical aphrodisiacs such as, chocolate and red wine, apples contain polyphenols and antioxidants. These can increase blood flow to the genitalia, as well as phloridzin, a type of estrogen similar to the female sex hormone estradiol that improves vaginal lubrication, reports the Huffington Post.

Reports also suggest that many of these benefits could be only in the peel of the apple. Researchers say it "might be interesting to evaluate" what role apple peels play in female sexuality. Either way, peel or the apple, it's something many women are willing to try.

What to you think? Is an apple a day worth it?
