The following is a list of the women tennis players who have won the most U.S. Open singles titles since the Open Era began in 1968. Prior to the Open Era, only amateurs could compete at the U.S. Open.

Women tennis players who won enough U.S. Open titles prior to 1968 to make this list include Molla Mallory (eight titles), Helen Wills (seven titles), Maria Bueno (four titles), Pauline Betz (four titles), Alice Marbles (four titles), Helen Jacobs (four titles) and Hazel Wightman (four titles).

I'm not including these women because they played when professionals were excluded from the tournament, and they very well might not have been playing against the best players in the world, like today's players do.

I've been a huge tennis fan since I was a kid, and played the game as soon as I was old enough to have a tennis racket shoved into my hands. My parents were tennis nuts, and we played all the time as kids.

I've always been a big fan of professional tennis and have seen all the women on this list play at the U.S. Open. All are great champions.
