According to Fox News, ads for positive pregnancy tests are springing up on Craigslist in multiple cities. Will desperate women really buy these used tests to trick their partners into marriage? That remains to be seen (and, if it happens, it will no doubt start a whole new genre of conflict on shows like Jeremy Kyle), but in the meantime, here's why this deception is relationship poison:
1) If he doesn't want to marry you, he doesn't want to marry you. Why would you want to be with someone permanently (or for as long as you can force it to last) if he doesn't really want to be with you? Too many women have self esteem problems and believe they're nothing without a man. Don't fall into that trap. If you're willing to get pregnant (or fake it) in order to land your man, take that as a red flag that you need to get out of that relationship and work on yourself before getting into another one.
2) You're setting a foundation for lies. How would you feel if you found out your partner was cheating on you and lied about it, or lied about something else major? It's a big slap in the face, and you shouldn't want to be with someone who would do that. So why should he want to be with someone who'd use pregnancy to force commitment? Are lies the best way to start out a healthy relationship? All you're doing is setting yourself up for failure, as the relationship will surely disintegrate.
3) You're going to have to come clean eventually. If you fake a pregnancy, it's going to be pretty darned hard to explain that in nine months when no bundle of joy arrives. Sure, you could fake a miscarriage, but that's desperate and pathetic. Otherwise, you'll have to confess the lie or come up with some sort of lame excuse dismissing the result as a mistake. Do you really want to have to deal with all that just to trick someone into being with you?
Hopefully women will find it a little too skeevy to buy used urine tests from others, but you never know. If you ever feel the temptation, let these three points be your reminder that it's not going to truly help your relationship.
