Just after Valentine’s Day, the love is in the air for women’s surfing. Surfers like Stephanie Gilmore and Alana Blanchard prove that women’s surfing is making tremendous strides.
Today in Sydney, Stephanie Gilmore was inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame. “This is such an honor,” Gilmore said. “Everyone in the Hall of Fame has had such an incredible impact on the world of surfing and to be included in that is unreal.” This five-time surfing champion is the 35th member to be inducted. It also marks a significant milestone in Australia’s surfing history. This is the 50th Anniversary of the Australian Surfriders Association. Women have come a long way in the surfing industry within the last 50 years.
Another woman who has proven that women in surfing can do it all is the beach beauty, Alana Blanchard. She has made history this week by being the only pro surfer to be featured in the illustrious Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. "I was so happy when I found out they chose me to be in the swimsuit issue. It's been my dream since as long as I can remember. It's such an honor to be among all those amazing women,” said Alana. The 22-year-old natural beauty from Kauai was handpicked by the SI crew to be featured alongside the most beautiful women in the world. Alana has qualified for the elite 2013 ASP Women's World Championship Tour, so we can expect to see a lot more of her ripping in a bikini.
