This Saturday, February 4, 2012, Knockout Women's Only Boxing Club joins forces with Empowered Health and Fitness, Inc. to offer you a great workout with an additional bonus; learn to protect yourself.
Everyone loves the feeling of a post workout buzz. The tired-in-a-good-way feeling you get after having pushed yourself through a workout, feeling like you've come out stronger on the other side. Imagine that feeling coupled with the added satisfaction of knowing you've learned some valuable self defense skills.
Two-time Chicago Golden Gloves Winner Jessica Storch, owner of Knockout Women's Boxing Club invited Empowered Health and Fitness, Inc. to lead the workout. Co-owner of Empowered, Rita Figueroa states, “Angela [Gibson, co-owner] and I had talked about this for a while. We have been given the opportunity to learn so much, why not use it to help others. With over 30+ years of experience between us, there is much we can offer.”
The fact that both businesses are women owned and operated adds legitimacy and incentive to any women who may be prone to self doubting “I could never do that” thoughts. Figueroa is a retired professional boxer as well as a third degree black belt, Gibson herself holds a fifth degree. Both are married women with adult children. Approachable, down to earth, 'everywomen' personalities who have pushed themselves to their current level of fitness and achievement making themselves easy to be inspired by. The self doubters may soon find themselves thinking, “I could be like them.”
In the event press release, Storch states, “I believe it is important to have this workshop led by females to show women that they can be leaders, can be strong and can learn to take care of themselves.” Her vision is shared by Figueroa when she says, “If we can teach one person a self defense tactic to save them or a loved one, that would just be amazing, or teach a fighter to shift, maybe help someone come up with a fitness plan. Those would be more empowered people. Being empowered is an amazing thing that will benefit every aspect of ones life.”
The workshop will start at 1pm on February 4 and run for four hours. The workout will include boxing techniques accessible to both beginning and advanced levels, circuit training and self defense. Knockout Women's Only Boxing Club is located at 95 W. 61st Street in Westmont, IL. The workshop is open to both members and non-members and costs $50.
