Newcomers Gaby Ponce, 18, and Leticia Bufoni, 17, won the 2010 IFC Women's World Championships titles in the vert and park divisions respectively on June 26-27 at Boston's TD Garden in Boston, Mass.
It was the second time the International Skateboarding Federation held this competition in partnership with Dew Tour’s Skate Open to kick off the 2010 Dew Tour season in Boston which featured over 140 skaters and 28 countries last year in front of more than 40,000 fans.
Ponce improved her second place finish in the vert division from last year and dethroned reigning vert champion, Lyn-Z Adams.
“I didn’t expect it, you know, because I’m the new kid out here,” Ponce said in an interview with DYLA Magazine. “I’m just so grateful, and especially to my parents for supporting me.”
Bufoni did not mind being the new kid on the U.S. pro skating scene after moving to California from Brazil a few years ago and even revealed the secret of her success.
“I watch the guys skating and I want to skate like the guys,” Bufoni said in an interview with DYLA Magazine. “So I keep looking and I train and I try to do the same things that the guys are doing.”
