According to an ad on Craigslist on December 31, 2012, a women’s professional football league is in the works for Alabama in 2013.
The ad reads as follows:

Ladies are you looking for a chance to play football? And play professionally? Do you love the game of football? Well look no more, This is a paid, full contact, full uniform league. You must be 18 years old and older to try out for the WIFL.The WIFL is presently looking for top female athletes from all forms of sports for the upcoming 2014 WIFL spring season. We are looking for players to complete the rosters of our proposed 4 Alabama teams. (Montgomery/Mobile/Huntsville/Birmingham) If you feel you've got what it takes and you're looking for a chance at greatness then wait no more. Combine Tryouts for ALL locations will be held one day only at 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on January 19th, 2013 in Montgomery, AL. George Washington Carver H. S., will be the hosting location, 2001 West Fairview Ave. Bring water, Cleats, workout clothes. Tryouts are first come, first serve. You will need to provide a picture ID. Please note there is a $25 tryout fee and registration can be done online at www.wiflfootball.com prior to January 18th. Walkups will pay $40 the day of the tryouts.
