Women’s ice hockey preparing for Sochi Olympics

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics will run from February 7 through February 23, 2014 and the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team is gearing up to their final roster, which will include 18 forwards/defensemen and three goaltenders.

To whittle their numbers into shape, the U. S. Women’s National team program will represent their country in the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship in Ottawa, Ontario, on March 25-31, 2013. On March 30, 2013, the final 23-player roster will be announced out of 28 athletes that participated in the Lake Placed camp.

Building up to Sochi, the U. S Women’s National Team will train and play in various competitions starting June 16 at Lake Placid. That final roster will be announced June 24 after plenty of on-and-off ice testing ad three intrasquad scrimmages.

The head coach for the 2014 U. S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey team is Katey Stone. Stone currently serves as the head women’s ice hockey coach at Harvard University and the head coach of the U. S. Women’s National Team. The assistant coaches are expected to be announced later this spring.

The women’s ice hockey competition is scheduled to start on Feb. 8, 2014, and the gold-medal game on Feb. 20, 2014.
