Find Fashion to Melt for at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas
10th Annual Labor Day Luncheon & Style Show
The hospital’s largest event and fundraiser will return on Aug. 24
to raise awareness and funds for the March of Dimes
For its monumental tenth year, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas’ largest event and fundraiser will return again to raise funds for the March of Dimes, all while showcasing flawless fall style for hundreds of Houston-area women. The hospital, recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its annual Best Hospitals rankings, will hold The Woman’s Hospital of Texas 10th Annual Labor Day Luncheon & Style Show, co-chaired by Woman’s CEO Linda Russell and March of Dimes Guild Board member Michelle L. Smith, on Saturday, August 24. The event, held for the first time at the Omni Houston Galleria Hotel, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature boutique shopping, a lunch, fashion show and style presentation.
KTRK ABC 13 news anchor Miya Shay will emcee the Emerald City-themed event, showcasing Holly Thompson’s famous style seminar and Todd Ramos’ captivating runway fashion show. One lucky attendee will have the chance to take home a chic designer handbag, Kendra Scott jewelry and other door prizes generously provided by Houston-area boutiques and spas.
Just as if they’re in the Land of Oz, attendees will have the opportunity to find more than ruby slippers at the Boutique Bazaar, which features “little pretties” to purchase from two dozen of Houston’s trendiest stores. Ten percent of the proceeds from purchased items will benefit the March of Dimes Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Family Support Program at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, which supports families who have a baby hospitalized in the NICU.
The NICI Family Support Program launched in 2011 and is the only program of its kind in Houston. The program provides information and comfort to families during the NICU hospitalization of their newborn and during the transition to home. It also promotes the philosophy of family centered care and contributes to professional development for NICU staff.
“It’s an honor to join the March of Dimes in their efforts to prevent premature birth and advance the healthcare of infants,” said Russell. “Every year we look forward to hosting this event and raising funds for this truly inspiring cause, and I feel that this year will be something incredibly special, fun and unique.”
This year more than 1,400 babies in the United States (1 in 8) will be born prematurely. Many will be too small and too sick to go home. Instead, they face weeks or even months in the NICU. These babies face an increased risk of serious medical complications, lifelong health problems and even death. The cause of nearly half of all premature births remains unknown; support for the March of Dimes efforts to prevent premature birth is increasingly critical. With the continuing rise in pre-term deliveries, support for the March of Dimes cause is increasingly crucial as we work together to prevent premature birth.
“The Labor Day Luncheon event is critical for our yearly fundraising goals, and we’re immensely grateful for the contributions from the Houston women that help make this event so successful,” said Darcie Champagne Wells, executive director of the March of Dimes’ Texas Chapter. “It’s always a joyous, fun event but also incredibly meaningful. It truly warms my heart to know these women support our mission, and in return, we’re able to offer more support to families in crisis.

About the Woman’s Hospital of Texas
The Woman's Hospital of Texas is Houston's FIRST Woman's Hospital. The hospital was established in 1976 by a group of physicians who recognized the need for a facility focused solely on the care of women and infants. In keeping with this vision, Woman's offers a full range of women's services, including breakthrough developments in minimally invasive surgery such as Robotic Surgery, and urogynecology. The hospital has an antepartum unit, 36 labor and delivery rooms, a medical surgical unit and 124-bed Levels II and III Neonatal Intensive Care nurseries.
