Flash fiction writing contest

The ezine Women On Writing (WOW!) is holding their flash fiction writing contest for the spring quarter. The contest is open to all ages, styles, and genres. International submissions accepted but must be in English.

Entries should fall between 250 to 750 words. This is an open prompt for fiction only. Nonfiction will not be accepted. Entry fee is $10. Deadline is May 31, 2010. Awards include:

First Place: $250 cash prize
Second Place: $150 cash prize
Third Place: $100 cash prize

Prizes for all three winners and seven runners-up include a $25 Amazon gift certificate, publication of their entry on WOW, a one-year subscription to Premium-Green Markets Community, a copy of The Complete Guide to Hiring a Literary Agent, and an interview on the WOW blog.

The Writer’s Loft: Helmed by the great Jerry Cleaver, author of Immediate Fiction and Professor of Professional Fiction at Northwestern University.

StoryStudio Chicago: StoryStudio’s mission is to “foster confidence and creativity in writing and storytelling through teaching, discussion, performance and community building. Writers and performers of all levels—from beginners to professionals—are invited to participate.”

Neighborhood Writing Alliance: The Neighborhood Writing Alliance holds several weekly writing workshops in neighborhoods across the city. Registration is free.

NewTown Writers: NewTown is a gay and lesbian writers’ group with regular workshops every two weeks. Sign up now to participate in their three new workshops scheduled for April 2010.

TheUndeniables.org is an online critique group for those with restricted schedules who may not have the time to participate in a conventional classroom workshop. Registration is free. Wordpress account required.
