Wayne State University's new faculty are strongly represented by Lauren Kalman, Millee Tibbs, Margi Weir and curated by Marilyn ZImmerwoman. Newcomer to our area Golsa Yaghoobi is teaching at CCS, and is originally from Iran. (She learned English when earning her MFA and has married a former Detroiter and they decided to move here!) Her portrait series of an Iranian feminist photographer layered with the patterning of particular Iranian mosques, which speaks to the pushing against the pegagogy that women are bravely doing at the potential cost of their lives in this current war against women we are fighting.) This brings together established artists such as Barbara DeGenevieve teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Liz Cohen, performance artist and automotive designer, who is teaching at Cranbrook Academy of Arts with upcoming talents like Shanna Merola and Trisha Holt. Susan Gofstein envisions vulva stigmatas, Cynthia Greig depicts her husband as an odalisque, such pleasures of viewing to be seen!
The Crone, Diva, Warrior and Wildwoman Celebration is March 22, 6-9 pm and all are invited to once again raise the roof when we honor women who have effected change. Please join the joyous celebration of this closing reception!
