This video is about a girl's school in Thailand. The video is captioned in English because the narration is Thai. But it is easy to follow and you will find it thought-provoking, at least.
I hope you will just take a few minutes to watch.
People who don't like pleas for help often look for excuses to do nothing. When the donation is for another culture some say they would prefer to help people in their own country.
But I divide what I am able to contribute among people who need help without ruling out anyone. I'll tell you why in a minute.
This is a girls boarding school that basically rescues young girls from really bad things.
Why are they more important than US girls?
That isn't the idea. It's that they are in dire straits in an extremely poor country and a government able do little or nothing to help its citizens.
In case somebody does not know, the US is the best place in the world to be poor.
If anybody needs justification for helping people of Southeast Asia -- Laos, Thailand, Vietnam -- they need only do a bit of research about the first and second Indochina wars, the second being what we call the Vietnam war.
These girls are people
People -- as in you and me and maybe our daughters -- NOT people as in the government of their country.
The people are still reeling from what was done to their country in the 1960s and 1970s.
This isn't about politics or culture. It's about a school trying to help young girls have a chance to ... you can fill in the blank.
The school is operated by Buddhist nuns
If you don't have familiarity with Buddhist nuns and monks it is not possible to fully pick up on the nuances in the video.
But if you knew them you might think as I do that Buddhist monks and nuns may very well be the last stronghold of what it means to have no prejudice or bias period. I believe they define the Golden Rule and the Love Thy Neighbor concept.
Just take a look at the video. It is entertaining and If you care to you can make a small donation through PayPal or with your credit or bank card.
Every little bit helps
One dollar goes far over there. For $50 one girl can have room, board, and education for an entire month. But there is no low end limit on donations. Every little bit helps.
The school might send photos and write to you if you request they do that. I don't care about that stuff so I don't know.
My best friends
I have talked about them before. Two women who are Buddhist and my favorite people on earth. They have a philosophy that goes like the following:
The only thing worth dying for is another person who at the moment is worse off than yourself.
Nobody is being asked to die here, but there is the opportunity to perhaps save the life of a girl or young woman that is worse off than yourself.
