Two of the three women held captive by Ariel Castro want Joan Rivers to apologize for remarks she made. Rivers stated that it was a joke and she had no intentions of apologizing. Rivers made a comment comparing living in her daughter’s guest room with the conditions the three women faced while held in captivity.

The comments made by Rivers were said while she and her daughter were appearing on NBC’s Today show to discuss their reality show. Rivers said, “Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space.”

The following day attorneys for Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus called Rivers on the carpet for her remarks describing them as hurtful and shocking. The attorneys went on to say that the women have “endured painful media attention” and Rivers comments were a “new low” that needed an apology.

Berry, DeJesus and the third woman, Michelle Knight finally escaped from Ariel Castro after a decade of being held hostage and subjected to sexual abuse and emotional abuse. Ariel Castro hanged himself in prison.
