January 31st, 2012 - The Detroit Police Department announced the deaths of four women in November. This week, three of these women have been linked to the adult escort services website Backpage. These women's bodies were found in the trunks of cars in Detroit.
Detroit News: On Christmas morning, the bodies of two women were found in the trunk of a white Buick LeSabre parked inside a garage and set on fire in the 14000 block of Lannette Street. Those two women have been tentatively identified as between 28 and 29 years old, Godbee said.
On Dec. 19, the corpses of two women were found in the 14400 block of Promenade Avenue inside the trunk of a silver Chrysler 300. They have been identified as Renisha Landers, 23, and Demesha Hunt, 24. The cause of their deaths is still pending until the outcome of toxicology tests.
Another woman, Kalisha Madden, has been missing since November 28th, 2011. Kalisha also worked in the sex industry as an exotic dancer. Ms. Madden is the mother of six children and greatly mourned by her community.
The deaths and disappearances of sex workers are entirely too common in the United States. The United Nations recommended to the United States, "...ensure access to public services paying attention to the special vulnerability of sexual workers to violence and human rights abuses." (UPR)
