Women Build Clinic

On Saturday, April 16, Lowe’s will host a “Women Build Clinic.” This event is designed to teach women to use power tools and other basic construction skills and is being held in preparation for the Habitat for Humanity Orlando Women Build Week, but all women who are interested in learning about construction are encouraged to attend.

The clinic takes place from 10am to 1pm at Lowe's, 8700 W. Colonial Dr., Orlando. The schedule includes: the use of power tools from 10:00 am -11:30 am and then the process of hanging drywall from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm.

Space is limited and registration in advance is required. Please contact Chris Eckert at ceckert@habitat-orlando.org to reserve a spot.

Habitat for Humanity offers a hand up - not a hand out - to families caught in a cycle of poverty. Last year, 19 Central Florida families became first time homeowners through Habitat for Humanity's mission of building and rehabilitating simple, affordable homes for low income families.

"The need for affordable housing has never been greater in our community," Lusinda Recor, a Habitat for Humanity Orlando fundraising team leader for Women Build Week said. "This is an opportunity to raise funds for a worthy project and empower women to take action against poverty housing conditions. Habitat for Humanity's Women Build recruits, educates and nurtures women to build - and advocate for - simple and affordable homes in our community."

“The Stag Horn Villas project in Orlando,” Recor pointed out as an example, “is providing low-income hard working families with the America Dream of home-ownership while improving the communities we live in.”

In 2008, Lowe's sponsored the first "National Women Build Week" and still underwrites the overall Women Build Program. Habitat Orlando is proud to partner with our local Lowe's stores for a second year. The Habitat for Humanity Women Build Week takes place on May 2 to 7.
