'Women Art Revolution': Free screening and feminist artist panel

WINNIPEG – Join the Institute for Women's Gender Studies (IWGS), Gallery 1C03 and Mentoring Artists for Women's Art (MAWA) for the first screening of Lynn Hershman Leeson’s "!Women Art Revolution" in Winnipeg. This free, public event will take place in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall at the University of Winnipeg, on March 2, 2012 at 7 p.m.

"!Women Art Revolution" shows the evolution of and major role played by the Feminist Art Movement in the United States through interviews with visionary artists, historians, curators and critics who shaped its beliefs and values, as well as art, and rarely seen archival films and images. Carrie Brownstein composed an original score to accompany the film. The soundtrack also features music by Laurie Anderson, Janis Joplin, Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip, Erase Errata and Tribe 8.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with local feminist artists Roewan Crowe, Shawna Dempsey and Sherry Farrell-Racette.
