Woman in zoo pen: Drunken woman arrested for climbing in elephant enclosure

Woman in zoo pen sounds like a play on words or a holiday spoof, but this weird news story actually took place Monday. Reportedly, a drunken woman was arrested for climbing into an elephant zoo pen at the Denver Zoo and nearly receiving the shock of her life, according to a Dec. 24 NY Daily News report.

Reports of an "extremely intoxicated" woman in a zoo pen are shocking, no pun intended. However, matters could have been a whole lot worse for one zoo patron.

Kelly Flynn, 21, was with companions at the annual Zoo Lights event when she wandered off alone about 9:00 p.m. Moments later, workers found the woman inside an elephant enclosure. And initially, they thought she was shocked by the electric wires surrounding the zoo pen.

However, that was ruled out when it was learned Flynn was allegedly heavily under the influence and was severely "disoriented" as reports suggest.

She was transported to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries, but was otherwise fine. However, for her antics, police arrested Flynn and charged her with trespassing.

Considering the electric wires were live and a shock could have resulted in death or serious injury, coupled, with the fact that no elephants were in the enclosure at the time, the woman in the pen got a second lease on life.
