A single mother shares the same name as someone wanted by the police. The shared name has resulted in the mother being wrongly arrested twice by a northern Florida sheriff’s office.
Ashley Nicole Chiasson, 28, spent 28 days in jail in January. She had been extradited to Clay County from her home state of Louisiana. Once officials realized they had the wrong woman, Chiasson was released from jail.
At a status hearing last month regarding the grand theft case that was in the process of being dropped, Chiasson was once again arrested. Chiasson was arrested on an entirely different charge and spent another week in jail.
Again, when the sheriff’s office realized it was a different woman, Chiasson was released. Chiasson’s attorney sent the sheriff’s office a letter of intent to sue this week. The other Ashley O. Chiasson that the deputies thought they were arresting is older and taller. She is currently still being sought by the sheriff’s office.
