Woman who reunited impounded dog with owner threatened with lawsuit

Maria Sanchez has been threatened with a lawsuit by the man she reunited with his impounded dog. Sanchez was at the San Bernadino City Animal Shelter when she saw Dave Thomas weeping because he couldn’t afford to pay for the release of his beloved dog Buzz Lightyear.

Sanchez took a picture of Thomas sitting on the floor by his two year old pit bull and posted the sad photo on Facebook. Sanchez then asked her friends and family to donate towards the $400 shelter fee to get Buzz back to Thomas.

The generous people donated $1000 and Sanchez got Buzz Lightyear released and back with his owner Dave Thomas. Days later, Thomas repaid Sanchez’s good deed by leaving her a nasty voicemail that threatened her with a lawsuit.

Maria Sanchez stated she was “shocked” when she received the voicemail from Thomas threatening to sue her. Sanchez stated that Thomas wanted all of the remaining donation money be turned over to him and his wife and if she didn’t he’d sue.

Maria Sanchez spoke with RadarOnline regarding the situation. She stated, “I was so shocked.”

“I thought I was doing a good deed because it was such a heartbreaking moment. Little did I know that it would come back to haunt me.”

“If I didn’t act quick, the dog would probably have been euthanized within a few days, so I had to do something. This man wanted the rest of the cash from the charity donations in a lump sun, which I didn’t want to give him.”

Of the $1000 she had raised for Buzz, Maria Sanchez kept $842.07 for the shelter fees and vet treatments she had paid for. She is planning on giving the remaining money “to the shelter.”

So far Dave Thomas has not acted on any of his legal threats. Maria Sanchez commented by saying, “I haven’t received any calls from any lawyers or him since that voicemail.”

What do you think? Should the money be given to Dave Thomas or the shelter?
