Woman who put puppy in trunk won't be admitted to college

Dearborn, MI - The 18 yr-old girl who was cited for animal cruelty last week for keeping a 4 month-old Pit bull puppy in the trunk of her vehicle will not be able to enroll in veterinary technician classes.

For that matter, she will not be allowed on the campus.

According to the Press and Guide, the 18 yr-old girl had been visiting the Sanford-Brown College campus last week to see about enrolling in the veterinary program.

It was during her time there that the campus President walked by the girl's vehicle and heard barking coming from the trunk.

The campus President, Roger Hosn, revealed his good character by taking quick action.

Hosn utilized a visitor sign-in sheet to identify the woman. He then brought the girl out to the car, along with another professor, and tried to explain to the girl that stowing a puppy in a trunk was inhumane.

Oddly, the woman did not see it as a problem.

Hosn again took action.

He orchestrated a tour for the girl in order to keep her busy until police could arrive to campus.

By the time officers arrived, 45 minutes had passed. At that time, the animal control officer was able to release the puppy from the trunk.

Though the puppy was described as "okay" after his ordeal, there was evidence that he had peed and pooped during his confinement in the trunk.

The woman was cited for animal cruelty and the puppy was taken to the Dearborn Animal Shelter to be held until the court decides whether or not the woman will regain custody.

Though the wheels of justice are frequently slow to turn, the college administration is not subject to the same "red-tape".

According to the Press and Guide, President Hosn stated that this woman will not be allowed to enroll in classes at Sanford-Brown and she is not welcome on campus - even as a visitor.

Welcome news to those who worried that this young woman might be allowed to pursue her desire to work with animals in the future. She may try elsewhere, but this college will have nothing to do with her.

Please note: The puppy featured in the photo which accompanies this story is not the puppy who was locked in the trunk. This is a puppy available for adoption in MI. Please read Marty's Petfinder profile at this link.
