Lacy, Wash. - Brandi Luckey told KIRO 7 that for days she helplessly watched her neighbor's three children throw, kick, stomp on, and beat with a broom their helpless 9-lb. German shepherd-mix puppy, named Bella.
(WARNING: Video may be disturbing to some.)
As Luckey watched the children "beat her on the head and kick her,” she could only wonder "what's going on inside."
Luckey decided to do something about it. Her boyfriend captured the children abusing the puppy on videotape and Luckey contacted Crime Stoppers and animal services with the videotaped evidence.
After officers watched the video evidence, they seized Bella from the family and took her to the veterinary hospital. The vet, Dr. Vicky Smith, told KIRO 7 that she noticed a limp, but would not know the extent of the injuries until a radiologist examined them. Dr. Smith added, "They could easily have killed her; just stepping on her alone I'm surprised they didn't break some ribs;” however, she said that Bella will be fine.
No one wants to call the cops on their neighbors. The reality is that most people simply don't want to get involved. Thankfully, Luckey was not of that same mindset. She got involved. She saved Bella's life. She is a hero to Bella and the animal-loving community.
The officers of animal services are urging the Prosecuting Attorney's Office to charge the mother of the children. Luckey believes the mother of the children knew they were abusing the puppy.
The children's mother was not available for comment, according to KIRO 7.
