On Thursday afternoon, a woman tried to drive her car through a barrier protecting the White House. After failing to do that, she sped away and tried to crash through a barrier in the Capitol Hill area. At that point, Capitol Hill Police shot the woman fatally. She had a young child in the backseat, who was unharmed. An unconfirmed report says that one officer was injured.
Sen Bob Casey , D-PA told reporters, he was walking towards the Capitol, when he saw several Capitol Police cars go by at a high rate of speed and then heard four or five pops. An officer pushed Casey and a couple of others behind a car for safety.
The House heard the warning alarm and left the chambers. The senate also suspended business and adjorned to safer quarters. People standing in front of the Supreme Court building were hurried inside. The lockdown lasted an hour before the all clear was given.
Police have no motive yet on why the woman tried to crash the barriers.
