Veronica F. Raggilokey, 59, of Carlsbad, was found alive at the bottom of a hill after she went off the road and her vehicle rolled down the embankment 300 feet and resting at the bottom.
Raggilokey was not badly hurt, but she could not climb the sides of the embankment, and waited in her car for rescue. Her cell phone did not work, but she did try honking her horn for help, until the car battery died.
"She had a blanket, a flashlight and a couple of water bottles, but she did sustain herself by filling the water bottles with the river water," CHP Reggie Julius told KTVB News.
Raggilokey's husband reported her missing and no one knew what happened to her, until a family traveling from Phoenix to Pismo stopped to water and walk their dogs off highway 166 and noticed the wrecked car. The car was sitting about 2.5 miles east of Tepusquet Road.
"I've never witnessed, experienced, or heard of anything remotely close to this. You physically have to get out of your vehicle, out of your car and walk down to the embankment and look down and even in some areas of the embankment in looking over the edge you still wouldn't have been able to see the vehicle," said Julius.
The family helped Raggilokey climb to the top of the hill and called for help.
Raggilokey has no memory of the incident and the police are investigating the crash.
