There are deaths that are tragic, strange, sad, and just never should have happened. All of those can be said about a death that happened on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, when a young woman stumbled and fell onto some subway tracks in New York City and was killed by a train.
New York City police state that the woman was stumbling around the Manhattan subway platform around 5:00 a.m. on the morning of New Year's Day. The platform isn't far from Times Square, and assumptions are that the victim may have been celebrating the ringing in of the new year.
The accident happened at the number two line station on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue. This is one stop from where thousands of party-goers gather in Times Square to see the ball drop for the new year.
A lot of scrutiny is coming to subway deaths in New York City as many believe that there should be extra security on the subway platforms. This comes from two men being shoved to their deaths off of subway platforms in early December of 2012.
Actually, subway deaths are rather common in New York City According to reports from the Daily News, there was close to a fatality a week in 2012.
