A woman was struck and killed early Wednesday morning when she attempted to cross a dark street in Decatur.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. in a dimly area on Memorial Drive, according to DeKalb County police.
Investigators said Ms. Trinadina Willis, 43, was crossing Memorial Drive near Line Street when the incident happened.
“There was no crosswalk,” police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said. “She stepped into the path of an oncoming car and was struck and killed.”
The unidentified driver stopped at the scene and is not expected to be charged, Capt. Fore said.
Police are still investigating why the woman stepped in front of the path of the westbound passenger car.
Authorities shut down all lanes of the busy thoroughfare for some time early Wednesday morning, but the roadway reopened later in the morning, according to a media report.
There were no report of other witnesses and no report of any other injuries in the deadly wreck.
