Women strip for the pope in protest of Vatican opposition to gay marriage (Video)

While Pope Benedict XVI was delivering a weekly traditional prayer from his studio window overlooking the Vatican’s piazza on Sunday, he took no notice of the four women in St. Peter’s Square below who were wrestling with police after stripping from the waist up and exposing their breasts.

The ladies, activists associated with the Ukrainian feminist group Femen, had removed their tops in protest of the Vatican’s opposition to gay marriage and were ultimately arrested by police.

The women’s bodies had been painted with their battle cries “In Gay We Trust” and “Shut Up” according to The Blaze.

One of the protesters, Inna Shevchenko, informed the media that “today we are here to protest against homophobia.”

In addition to today’s protest at the Vatican by Femen, a protest march in Paris is scheduled for today. Hundreds of thousands are expected to join in the protest of French President Francois Hollande’s plan to legalize gay marriage and allow gay couples to adopt children.
