Woman sticks hand in lion cage: Fingerless woman sues zoo for her own stupidity

A woman sticking her hand in a lion cage pulled it out minus one of her digits, and now, because of her own inane decision to dangle her hand inside of the lions' enclosure, she is bringing suit against the zoo. The mindless woman from Michigan decided she needed to pet a caged lion, ignored the signs, snuck into a prohibited area and reached through the bars. Now she’s seeking action because she was not “properly protected.”

The Daily Caller called it the “duh” story of the day, and we would heartily agree.

Per the Caller: “Renae Ferguson was visiting the Sunrise Side Nature Trail and Exotic Park by East Tawas on Saturday when she decided to stick her finger in a lion cage.”

“I put my hand down there to pet it and it ripped my finger,” Ferguson said, who lost her right middle finger to the mouth of the lion.

Shocking. But let’s go ahead and blame the zoo.

Ferguson, however, claims a zoo employee allowed her and her daughter to go down into an area reserved only for the zookeepers. She then says the zoo told her to lie about the incident and not to tell anyone. Sounds a little like she expects the zoo to share the lion’s share of her own idiocy.

“I was in total shock,” she said. “I really didn't believe that was part of my finger laying on the ground… They just told me not to tell. They told me to lie.”

Zoo officials of course deny the fact that anyone allowed her to get close to the lions and said Ferguson snuck into the enclosure, passing multiple signs warning her of the inherent dangers of doing do.

“The lady went into the security area and was told by the guide to get back and the lady stated she wanted to touch the lion and continued, against the guide's warning, to put her finger inside the fence and the lion nipped the end of her finger,” the zoo said in a statement. writes that Ferguson “has no intention of trying to shut the zoo down, but feels workers’ response to the incident was not helpful.”

Had they gone and retrieved a Band-Aid for her, we suppose Ferguson would have been mollified.
