Woman shot in the thigh during attempted carjacking in southwest Atlanta

A woman was shot in the thigh early Tuesday morning during an attempted carjacking at an apartment complex in southwest Atlanta.

And police on Wednesday were still searching for the suspect who may have had an accomplice.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. at the Villages at Castleberry Hill apartments, according to Atlanta police.

The victim told police that she was at the gate of the apartments at 600 Greensferry Ave. attempting to call her friend to buzz her into the complex when the suspect approached, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said.

“A male with something black covering the lower part of his face entered her vehicle from the passenger side with a gun pointed at her and told her to get out of the vehicle,” Officer Jones said.

The woman told investigators that she “tried to push buttons so that the gate would open and when it did not, the male yelled at her more violently,” Officer Jones said.

The woman panicked and accelerated forward in the vehicle. And the man fired a shot, striking her in the right thigh, police said.
