A woman was shot multiple times and killed in the parking lot of Cumberland Mall Monday in Cobb County. The man who shot her was found later at a home in East Point, and police said he was already dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

So far, police have not released a motive for the crime and it’s unclear what kind of relationship exited between the man and woman.

The investigation began shortly after 2: 20 p.m. when officers responded to 1000 Cumberland Mall in Atlanta after getting reports of shots being fired, according to Cobb County police.

When officers responded to the west side of Cumberland Mall, they found the woman lying in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said. The victim, later identified as 55-year-old Violet Lambert, of Atlanta, was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she died from her injuries, he said.

Witnesses told police the man who shot her got into a white van and was last seen leaving the area, he said. A short time later, the white van was discovered parked at a residence in East Point, Pierce said.

After obtaining a search warrant and with the assistance of East Point police and Fulton County S.W.A.T., detectives discovered the body of the suspect inside, Pierce said. The man, later been identified as 59-year–old Danny Wray Brown, of East Point, died from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound, Pierce said.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy on Brown's body body to confirm the manner and cause of his death, Pierce said.

Anyone with information about this murder-suicide is asked to call the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit at (770) 499-3945.
