Oscar Pistorius’ friend arrived at his house just in time to see Reeva Steenkamp die, making her a witness in this highly publicized murder case. The unnamed woman, who is a lawyer, said she was called by the very emotional Olympic star, who asked her to come to his house around 3 a.m., according to iolnews, on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013.
She arrived just as Pistorius was carrying the blood soaked body of Reeva down the stairs. The man they call the Blade Runner put Reeva down on the floor, where both Pistorius and this unnamed woman tried to revive her. When paramedics arrived, the duo stepped aside and the medical personal worked on Reeva, but they could not save her.
Police have also removed a bloody cricket bat from the Pistorius home. Police are investigation whether the bat was used to assault Reeva or if she used it to defend herself, according to Google News. Police theorize that Pistorius fired a shot at Reeva in the bedroom, which hit her in the hip. From there they believe she ran to hide in the bathroom, where Pistorius then put three more bullets in his model girlfriend.
The possibility that Pistorius was suffering from “roid rage” has surfaced in the media. Did Pistorius take steroids? If he did was his alleged rage a result of the substance which is well known to cause fits of rage. This will most likely be addressed during the investigation.
Pistorius told his friend that he thought that Reeva was an intruder after he heard noise coming from the bathroom. This is when he claims that he pointed his gun in that direction and shot four times. He maintains that this was a mistake he made that resulted in Reeva's death.
He claims he didn’t know it was Reeva in the bathroom, although security video show that she arrived at his house hours before this incident, so he should have been well aware she was in the house. The video from the cameras show Reeva arriving at his home at 6 p.m., so she had been there since the evening before this shooting.
Pistorius continues to say he never meant to kill Reeva and that he thought that she was an intruder. His family is standing by his story and they “strongly refute” the allegations of premeditated murder, according to iolnews today. Pistorius uncle, Arnold Pistorius, said yesterday that the Olympic star is “numb with shock as well as grief.” Since Pistorius and Reeva started dating in November, the two had become very close, his uncle shared.
