A woman's execution was postponed on Jan. 29. According to Huffington Post, Kimberly McCarthy was set to die today by way of lethal injection. Instead, a Judge in Texas delayed her execution, pushing it off until the spring. McCarthy's lawyers will likely be appealing the case, giving her one last shot at avoiding death.
"State District Judge Larry Mitchell, in Dallas, rescheduled Kimberly McCarthy's punishment for April 3 so lawyers for the former nursing home therapist could have more time to pursue an appeal focused on whether her predominantly white jury was improperly selected on the basis of race," reports Huff Post.
The woman's execution was postponed just a day after people were learning about the crimes that she committed. She has been on death row for well over a decade and while her life was supposed to end today, she will hang on for a couple of more months. This has many citizens outraged.
As previously reported, Kimberly McCarthy was found guilty of beating, robbing, and stabbing her elderly neighbor back in 1997. It is also believed that she murdered two other elderly women. She has been in prison since her conviction and many expected today to be her last day.
The woman's execution has been postponed until April 3, 2013.
