Woman out on bond after being charged with statutory rape of teenage girl

A Jackson woman facing a rape charge is out on bond after an investigation revealed that she had sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl, according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.

Laquisha Anderson, 21, was arraigned at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Jackson City Court on a charge of statutory rape. The release said Anderson has been released from the Madison County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

The release said Anderson surrendered at the Jackson Police Department, located at 234 Institute Street, Tuesday morning.

Anderson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on March 21 in Jackson City Court.
The release said on Feb. 23, a woman reported to police that she suspected her granddaughter was romantically involved with an adult woman. The investigation indicated that the adult and teen have been in a relationship that was of a sexual nature.

The Tennessee Department of Children's Services was notified about the allegation and the investigative findings, the release said.
