Woman orchestrates murder plot against husband for adopted son

A woman who wanted to collect money from life insurance and to have a relationship with her adopted son plots to have her husband murdered. The woman enlisted the help of her adopted son and her brother and as the man was driving the interstate, a drive by shooting left him wounded.

A police report that was released on Monday revealed that Robert Bessey’s wife was the one behind his attempted murder. Amy Pearson was arrested by Las Vegas police on charges of attempted murder, battery and conspiracy to commit murder.

In addition, Pearson has help from her brother, Richard Pearson, 39 and her and Robert Bessey’s adopted son, Michael Bessey, 21. Their plan was to kill him as he was driving on Interstate 15 near the Valley of Fire.

As he was driving down the interstate a gold SUV pulled up beside him and fired a shot into the car hitting Bessey in the neck. Bessey survived the gun shot and was able to identify the SUV as one belonging to his brother-in-law Richard Pearson’s girlfriend.

Police believed at first that Pearson’s motive for trying to kill Bessey was the $250,000 life insurance policy on her husband. The estranged couple were going through a divorce and the life insurance policy was about to expire.

Michael Bessey and Richard Pearson were charged last year but until this past Friday didn’t have enough evidence to implicate Amy Pearson. Although, the police had maintains that she had been their prime suspect for months.

New evidence seems to indicate that Amy Pearson and her adopted son Michael Bessey had more than a mother son relationship. When Robert Bessey spoke with police officers, he told then that “Michael and Amy were very close.”

Bessey went on to say that it was his wife’s relationship with their adopted son that prompted their divorce. According to Robert Bessey, family members went to him and revealed that “Amy had an unnatural relationship with Michael and was too close.”

Michael Bessey and Amy Pearson would hang out at nightclubs together. One witness told police that Bessey and Pearson would “grab each other’s buttocks.”

Michael Bessey’s ex-girlfriend even claims that it was Amy Pearson who was the cause of their break up. The police report states the ex-girlfriend stated, “Amy is the reason her and Michael broke up.”

Police were unable to tie Amy Pearson to the murder plot until Michael Bessey began running his mouth in jail. Michael Bessey revealed to a cellmate that there were three people who planned the murder and that all three of them were shocked when Robert Bessey survived.

Bessey went on to tell the cellmate that he and Amy Pearson would end up with a total of $400,000 between them and they’d never have to work again.

The cellmate then questioned Michael Bessey asking him why he would want his father dead. Bessey responded that his father, Robert Bessey had been physically abusive to his mother and was mentally abusive to the entire family.

The brilliant Michael Bessey then went on to describe how he had planned on blaming the murder on his uncle Richard Pearson. Bessey said that Pearson had just recently been released from prison and that he was going to claim that his uncle forced him to go along with the murder.

The cellmate went to police officers and offered to testify against Michael Bessey. Officers were able to verify that the cellmate knew details of the crime that only those involved would have known.

It was Amy Pearson who identified her brother Richard Pearson and son Michael Bessey in a video taken at a gas station. The two men were driving the gold SUV at the time.

In the months after her son’s arrest, Pearson spoke with the Review-Journal and said, “I have no idea what’s going on. I wish I did.”
