Woman left kids in freezing car to go drink

A mother in Florida wanted to go to a bar to have a drink. But instead of finding a babysitter, this mother allegedly left her two young children in her car.

After becoming drunk, Cheryn Scaggs then stumbled in the parking lot of Sports Bar and Grill, asking other customers to assist her in getting home.

A deputy was in the area at that time and noticed a crowd in the parking lot, so he went to investigate the situation.

Eventually, the deputy discovered “the two girls, ages 1 and 4, sitting in the backseat of Scaggs' SUV.”

According to News 13, the temperature at the time was about 30 degrees.

The children were not easily seen because Scaggs had “put up a visor on the windshield.”

“According to one witness, Scaggs said she had left the girls with a neighbor.”

Now Cheryn Scaggs, 30, has been charged with two counts of child abuse, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

During her appearance in court on Monday, a judge “ordered Scaggs not to have any contact with the children unless it is a through the Department of Children and Families.” The judge also warned her “not to consume any alcohol until further notice.”
